HOW DID THE TEMPLARS DEFEAT SALADIN

Saladin, Egypt’s and Syria’s powerful Sultan, launched his first military campaign against crusaders and templars in November 1177. With a large army (approximately 26,000 warriors) or other forces Saladin was able to field 20,000 soldiers the next day. The Franks were led by Guy of Lusignan, King of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Saladin led his Ayyubid army through the Sinai Desert from Egypt to southern Palestine.

Saladin’s army was allowed to forage for food and loot Christian settlements. King Baldwin IV, who was ill at the time. To Ascalon, about 350 mounted knights and a few soldiers marched. Saladin, on the other hand, believed that Crusaders did not attack with small forces. As a result, their forces were allow to move slowly and loot the villages.

The Knights Templar had left Ascalon and marched to block Saladin’s path to Jerusalem, with the help of Raynald of Châtillon, a French nobleman. As a result of the recent rains, his baggage train and siege engines became stuck in the mud near the mound of al-Safiya, not far from Montgisard.

The Sultan was take aback when the Crusaders arrive. His army was split between rescuing a stranded baggage train and plundering the surrounding area. The horses were exhaust after the long march from Egypt.

Saladin was in charge of the situation, but they are unable to do so. The battlefield saw a large number of soldiers flee. Early in the battle, Ahmad, Taqi ad-uncle, Din’s was kill, and the Ayyubid soldiers were discourage by the loss of Ahmad and other high-ranking officers. As a result, no one knows how many soldiers return to Egypt. This battle was win by the Crusaders, who are consider to be the greatest warriors in history, as well as the Christian army.
